She started and led their psychotherapy business line, including hiring and managing a team of psychotherapists.

  1. Dear Stuart,

First of all a big thank you for everything you are doing for us, OCD sufferers! You must have changed many lives, mine included!
Maybe some day I will also find the courage to share my story on the OCD Stories.
My question is not related to this podcast in particular but rather something more general regarding finding a good CBT therapist in the UK (I live in Germany).
You mentioned in one (not sure which one) of your podcasts the BABCP accreditation. How important is it for a therapist to have it? I’ve checked for eg. whether Dr. Rob Willson or Prof. David Veale are accredited and they don’t appear on the list. What does this mean?
Thank you so much and sorry if my question is too random but didn’t know where to ask you. What tool should I use next time?
    All the best from Germany.
    Claudia

      Hi Claudia,

Thank you for your kind words.

That is a very good question. Ideally BABCP is the best place to look for a CBT therapist in the UK as that governing body assures us they have been trained to a good standard in CBT. There are some exceptions for example David Veale who is a psychiatrist and would have done adequate additional training into OCD, same goes for Rob Willson, they both have worked at the best OCD clinics in the UK.

From what I gather there are many good OCD specialists and clinics in Germany so no need to look at one in the UK. I don’t have the name of it, but there is an OCD charity in Germany that will be able to advise. Hope that helps.
