Advice for an Amazing Life

In this inbetweenersode of the podcast I have cut together some of my guests answers to the question “what advice do you have to help people live an amazing life?“.

I love this question because recovery for me is about overcoming OCD but also creating and discovering the life you want. You don’t have to wait for complete recovery before you start living the life you want, you can live it now even with OCD in the passenger seat. In fact acceptance and commitment therapy encourages it. I hope you find this little mix inspiring.

In episode 46 of The OCD Stories podcast I was interviewed by Chetna of The East Bay Behavior Therapy Center. Chetna asked me some great questions about recovery, OCD, what the behind the scenes of The OCD Stories looks like and motivation.

East Bay Behavior Therapy Center

Correction: In the episode I talk about becoming a CBT therapist in the UK. I was not completely accurate. You can become a CBT therapist without becoming a councillor first.

Chetna asked me about many topics, including what a day in life of me looks like, motivation in OCD recovery, rOCD advice, telling a partner about OCD, meditation, what motivates me, service to others, detaching from work for positive mental health and cure or recovery. Enjoy.

Jeff Bell – When in doubt, make belief

In episode 33 of The OCD Stories podcast I interviewed Jeff Bell. Jeff was on episode 11 of the podcast with Shala Nicely. Jeff is the author of “When in doubt, make belief” and “rewind, replay, repeat”. He is also a radio news anchor in San Francisco and public speaker on OCD. Jeff co-founded adversity to advocacy and Beyondthedoubt.com.

Jeff Bell

I chat with Jeff about his book When in doubt, make belief and pull out some of the strategies in it. We discuss how to tell what is reasonable doubt and what is an OCD doubt. I love Jeff’s use of index cards to measure and track compulsions and obsessions. Both helping him limit them and over time see his progress. He talks about how radio helped him be in the present moment, and at that time be free from OCD. We discuss cure vs recovery, and the silver linings. Jeff shares his passion for purpose and service and how these two things can help us and the world. Enjoy.

Recovery from OCD is possible

OCD recovery has come up in some of my conversations recently. Mainly that a lot of people don’t believe it’s possible. What recovery is will often mean different things to different people. However the idea that recovery from OCD is possible has come up time and again in my interviews with therapists, researchers and people with OCD.

I wanted to inspire you in your journey to a life where OCD doesn’t dominate, but you do. I hope this short motivational clip will help you along your path.
